Jamaican Flag in Kota, Indonesia
I went on a museum crawl in Kota and Kota Tua, the old city in Jakarta and ran into these teenagers. I was taken aback by the Jamaican flag t-shirt. I went over and said, “Saya dari Jamaika” “I’m from Jamaica,” and we lit up the dark Bank of Indonesia’s Museum with our camera flashes. These young men were a pleasant surprise.
Have you seen anything from your culture when traveling? Do you find it easier to approach strangers when traveling?

I love seeing my flag in the most random places. For such a small island it never shocks me to see it anywhere. We likkle but we tallawah.
I definitely find it easier to walk up to total strangers while traveling…after all that’s what it’s all about. I do find that a lot of black culture is prominent abroad…I was Asia and hip hop was everywhere! Mind blowing considering many people did not speak English. Music connects!
You are so right Shermika. Music is the universal language.
