Photo Wednesday: Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta
This weekend I went temple trekking in Yogyakarta fondly referred to as Jogya. I visited Borobodur, Medut and the Prambanan temples. Of the three, Prambanan was my favorite. Borobodur gets all the glory, but Prambanan houses all the mystic that appeals to me.
Prambanan is a collection of Hindu temples, with three main temples dedicated to Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. They were built in the ninth century. The interior of Shiva’s temple was off limits to visitors, but there is much to admire from the outside.
One of the things I love about Indonesia, is reaching back thousands of years and being able to touch history. Visitors are able to touch the temples sculptures, climb the steps and enter inside to see statues and even leave offerings of their own.
